Statement of Bishop Fintan Monahan

Published on March 5, 2021

It has been a difficult week for all in the parish and diocese with the
sad news of the conviction of Fr. Jerry Carey on Monday last. I met
with the three Pastoral Councils to discuss the issue on Tuesday and I
was invited to inform parishioners via webcam during Mass in
Roslevan on Wednesday morning. The full text of my statement can

As bishop of Killaloe I apologise again for the distress and upset this
has caused. I thank you for the understanding shown, the
compassionate and calm way people have dealt with the news. I am
committed to offering any support possible to the parish at this
difficult time. Let us all keep this difficult situation in the prayers. If
anyone has been affected in any way by this issue please contact the
diocesan office or relevant state authorities.
Yours sincerely,
✠ Fintan Monahan
