Synodality: Walking Together as a Church
The word Synodality may sound complicated, but its meaning is quite simple: walking together.

For the Church in Ireland, synodality is an invitation to listen to one another, to listen to the Holy Spirit, and to ask where God is leading us at this particular moment in the life of the Church. Through our Baptism, we are all part of God’s family, and everyone has gifts and experiences that can enrich our Christian community.

The Irish Church is changing. We have fewer priests, changing patterns of Mass attendance, and many people—especially younger generations—who feel less connected to the Church.  But this can also be a time of opportunity and renewal. Rather than simply asking how we can preserve the past, synodality encourages us to ask: What is God calling us to become?

It is about listening, sharing, praying and discerning together. It invites us to build parish communities that are welcoming, caring, prayerful and open to the gifts of everyone.

To help us reflect on what synodality might mean for our own parish and where the Spirit may be leading us, you are warmly invited to two evenings of discussion in the Parish Centre at Ennis Cathedral on Saturday, September 26th, and Saturday, October 24th.
